BAMSI TERTIARY EDUCATION GRANT

The BAMSI Tertiary Education Grant is a Government-funded award available to qualified Bahamian students enrolling in full-time programmes at the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI). This grant supports tuition and some academic fees, enabling students to pursue a degree or diploma without the burden of financial barriers.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • New students are eligible for the Tertiary Education Grant if they are accepted and enrolled into one of our Associate of Arts Degree or Associate of Applied Science Degree program or certificate and diploma programs as a full time student. Returning students are eligible if they meet the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and enrol in minimum of 12 credits.
  • To maintain eligibility a student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA or above each semester and be enrolled as a full time student (i.e. twelve or more credits as per your contract). Exceptions are Final year students with fewer than 12 credits left to complete degree or students who are placed on academic probabtion during their one semester grace period for failure to maintain the minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. 
  • Be a Bahamian Citizen.
  • Students must not be in possession of another award or scholarship at the time of application.
  • The grant is only applicable for the Fall and Spring semesters. 

 

WHAT DOES THE GRANT COVER?

THE BAMSI TERTIARY GRANT COVERS TUITION, COURSE FEES (TECHNOLOGY FEE; STUDENT ACTIVITY FEE; LIBRARY FEE; COURSE LAB OR STUDIO FEE), TEXTBOOKS, COURSE EXTERNAL EXAMINATION FEE (AS APPLICABLE).

WHAT IS NOT COVERED?

THE GRANT DOES NOT COVER NON-INSTRUCTIONAL FEES LIKE SECURITY DEPOSIT, APPLICATION FEE, GRADUATION, DROP/ADD, CHANGE OF PROGRAM, CHALLENGE EXAMS AND SUCH FEES.

IT DOES NOT INCLUDE PAYMENTS FOR COURSES TAKEN DURING THE SUMMER, NOR THE COST OF TAKING REPEAT COURSES.

ACCOMMODATION, MEALS, AND PERSONAL EXPENSES ARE NOT COVERED AND ARE THE RESPONSIBLITY OF THE STUDENT. 

 

 

Once your application is approved, you will receive a Grant Letter via your BOAR student email and POPULI. Please read the letter and its terms, sign and email to the Registrar at registrar@bamsibahamas.edu.bs as soon as possible. FAILURE to submit the signed form will result in forfeiture of grant funds. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

It is money allocated by the government of The Bahamas to pay for qualified students to attend the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI).

All applicants must be Bahamian citizens, who are not in possession of another award/scholarship at the time of application. Applicants (new and returning) must be pursuing a minimum full time credit load of 12 credits per semester and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

It covers tuition, course fees (technology fee; student activity fee; Library fee; course lab or studio fee), textbooks, course external examination fee (as applicable).

The grant does not cover non-instructional fees like the security deposit, application, graduation, drop/add, challenge exams, change of program, and such fees. It does not include payments for courses taken during the summer, nor the cost of taking repeat courses.

ACCOMMODATION, MEALS, AND PERSONAL EXPENSES ARE NOT COVERED AND ARE THE RESPONSIBLITY OF THE STUDENT. 

 

The grant can be used for any of our Associate Degree programs (not short professional development courses).

Yes. You have to apply for the BAMSI Education Grant, as it is your choice to be considered or not. It is not automatically granted as you may already have a scholarship or another award that covers tuition and costs, or you may choose to cover the cost yourself, or you may not be eligible based on the criteria.

New Students: First Complete the BAMSI Undergraduate Application Form.  You have to be a Bahamian citizen and an enrolled student at BAMSI, registered for a minimum of 12 credits, in order to be eligible for the grant. 

Click on BAMSI Tertiary Education Grant request form in the Scholarships and Awards Section in the Admissions tab. Follow the instructions.

You will be notified of your grant status, after enrollment and registration. 

 

To  be approved for the BAMSI Grant: First you have to enrol in BAMSI as an undergraduate student, and register for your courses. Next complete the Grant application form, ensuring that you meet the criteria. Once your application has been processed and approved, you will receive a confirmation form through POPULI and your BOAR student email that requires you to read and sign to the terms listed to maintain the grant. The signed form must be emailed to registrar@bamsibahamas.edu.bs. FAILURE to submit the signed form will result in forfeiture of grant funds. The grant is only available for the Fall and Spring semesters.

– Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above.

– Students must pursue a minimum full time credit load of 12 credits per semester. Exceptions are final year students who have fewer than 12 credits remaining to complete their program or students who are placed on the academic probation for the one semester grace period

– Students must graduate within the associate degree period of candidacy, unless extenuating circumstances and an extension is granted after verification.

– Maintain minimum satisfactory academic requirements and remain in satisfactory disciplinary standing with the Institute

If your cumulative GPA drops below 2.0, you will be placed on academic probation, but allowed a one (1) semester grace period to bring the GPA up to 2.0 or higher. If you do not, then you will be suspended from the grant.

No. You do not have to re-apply once you have received notice that you qualify for the tuition grant. There is a one-time enrolment process for all grant recipients, provided that you maintain the grant requirements. Failure to do so, may require a reappplication upon your successful eligibility.
